The 1985 Monaco Grand Prix marked Alain Prost's second victory of the year, launching his bid for the 1985 title, which he ultimately won. As part of its series dedicated to world champion single-seaters, and with the usual quality of its products, Tameo Kits has developed this kit, carefully reproducing the car's contours. The kit is complemented by several photo-etched sheets to provide maximum detail and the corresponding decals, including those of the tobacco sponsors.

For the 1985 season, McLaren introduced the MP4/2B, an evolved version of the previous year's championship-winning car. The TAG-Porsche engine saw its power increased, reaching 850 hp in race trim, while due to new regulations, and as with the rest of the cars, the large rear wing used in 1984 was replaced with a more traditional one. Another new feature was the tire brand, which switched to Goodyear following the withdrawal of Michelin. Unlike the previous year, the F1 championship did not see another internal struggle between the McLaren team drivers, but rather a duel between Alain Prost and the Ferrari of Michele Alboreto. The fight remained very close for three-quarters of the season, thanks to the regained competitiveness of the Maranello team, but a series of four consecutive retirements by Alboreto due to mechanical failures in the final four rounds of the championship thwarted any title aspirations. Thus, at the end of the season, Prost was crowned world champion for the first time (the first world title for a French driver). McLaren would also be crowned Constructors' Champion, closing the season with six wins, two second places, and four third places, reaching 90 points in the standings, compared to Ferrari's 82.
