Within Aston Martin, the lightweight versions known as the GT were developed with a more sporting focus. In the late 1950s, Aston Martin created up to 19 special units of its DB4, even more optimized for competition use, based on the GT version. Their bodies were designed by Ercole Spada, designer of Zagato, which is why the Z appears in the car's name. In 1961, up to three units of the DB4 GTZ lined up in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, two of them belonging to the Essex Racing team with the numbers #2 and #3. None of them managed to finish the race due to cylinder head gasket problems. The kit includes parts in white metal, resin, and turned metal, completed with photo-etched plates, rubber tires, decals, and various types of wiring. Once assembled, both
the doors and the
front and rear hoods can be removed, revealing the entire interior and mechanical parts.
