The 1986 United States Grand Prix, held on the Detroit street circuit, saw a curious novelty on the sidewalls of the tires of the Benetton team cars... and that was that each of them was painted in different colours to match those of its main sponsor, "United Colours of Benetton. Tameo Kits, with the usual quality of its products, has developed the scale kit of this model, carefully reproducing the shapes of the single-seater. The kit is complemented with an extensive sheet of photo-etched parts to provide it with maximum detail and the corresponding decals.

The 1986 United States Grand Prix, held on 22 June at the Detroit circuit, was the seventh race of the calendar in which Ayrton Senna took victory in his Lotus-Renault 98T. At this event, Benetton introduced a “colourful” innovation: the Pirelli tyres sported shoulders in different colours, such as red, orange, green, blue, yellow and violet, all in perfect harmony with the colours of the “United Colors”. Benetton had hit the nail on the head, as the reaction of the media was spectacular, with all of them mentioning this innovation. In fact, thirty years later the Federation opted for a similar measure: colouring the tyres so that the public could immediately recognise the compound of the tyres mounted on each car.
The American event was not a fortunate one for the two drivers of the Italian team. In qualifying, Gerhard Berger finished on the sixth row with the twelfth fastest time, but 3.5 seconds behind poleman Ayrton Senna. Even further behind was Teo Fabi, with seventeenth position, more than 5 seconds behind the best time. The race ended with the retirement of both cars, due to an engine problem in the case of Gerard Berger after only 8 laps and due to a gearbox problem in the case of Teo Fabi after 38 laps.
