The late 1940s were a landmark period for Cadillac, debuting a completely redesigned model line in the “jet age” style, with a whole series of models inspired by the Lockheed P38 fighter. One of the models to sport a new body was the streamlined Series 62 Club Coupe, or “Sedanette” as it was later known. Its proportionate design featured an attractive egg-crate-shaped front grille, stainless steel stone guards on the rear fenders, and chrome hubcaps, but undoubtedly the most notable and widely replicated feature of the new design was the subtle raised tailfins at the end of each rear wing. This iconic aircraft-inspired detail would define not only Cadillac, but several other brands throughout the following decade.
Its technical specifications included a 5.7-litre V8 engine fed by a Carter WCD double-barrel carburettor, capable of generating around 150 hp and 385 Nm of torque. Power was transmitted to the rear wheels either by a 3-speed manual transmission or an automatic gearbox, in both cases with the lever mounted next to the steering wheel.
