The Porsche 911 is immortal, and that has helped its constant evolution. Porsche took its first big step in model evolution in 1969, increasing the wheelbase of the new "B" series by six centimetres. This important change served to give the 911 greater stability, which was also helped by larger wheels and tires, and to fit them, the wings and wheel arches also had to be modified. Under the engine hood, the six-cylinder boxer engine with two litres of air-cooled displacement was maintained, although the material of the casing was modified, which became magnesium alloy.
The S version of the 911, introduced in 1967, had a power of 170 horsepower. To do this, its engine mounted a modified camshaft, larger valves, modified intake and exhaust ducts, titanium alloy connecting rods and a higher compression ratio. Initially it was powered by two triple-barrel Weber carburettors, which were replaced from 1969 by a Bosch mechanical fuel injection system with which another 10 horsepower was gained. In addition to the increased wheelbase of the "B" series, the 911 S was equipped with a rear anti-roll bar, a stiffer front anti-roll bar, Koni dampers and four-wheel ventilated disc brakes. The five-speed overdrive gearbox of the 911 S was also modified, with specific gear ratios.
