There are cars that don't need to be supercars to become icons of a generation. For many, the car of their dreams was much more earthly, but with performance and efficiency that would put more than one vehicle with twice the power to shame. GTIs became very popular in the early 90s, and one of their references was the Peugeot 205, especially with its 1.9 version whose engine reached 130 hp of power. This, together with its scant 900 kg of weight, allowed the little 205 to exceed the 200 km/h barrier. Couldn't have one? Don't worry. Now you can build your own 1/8 scale replica, with a model where every element, every shade of colour and every line is reproduced with absolute precision. The kit contains all the plastic and metal parts already pre-painted and ready to be assembled. Once the assembly of the model is complete, all the doors and hoods open, revealing the engine and its striking interior. And if all this were not enough, it has functions to control the sound of the engine and the activation of the front and rear lights. An exceptional reproduction with extreme attention to detail.

In March 1984, Peugeot presented at the Geneva Motor Show the model that, within a few months, had become the king of popular sports cars... and not only in France, but also internationally. We are talking about the Peugeot 205 GTI 1.6, which dethroned the undisputed benchmark in the category it had created, the Golf GTI.

The first 205 GTI was equipped with the 1,580 cc, 105 hp XU5 engine, first fitted to the Citroën BX 16. With this engine, which incorporated a gasoline injection system, something still not very common in the mid-80s, the 205 GTI 1.6 became the top-of-the-range sports version of the 205. The greater power of the GTI compared to its range siblings necessitated modifications to both the suspension and braking systems, fitting ventilated discs on the front axle and disc brakes on the rear axle. In 1986, the 1.6-liter engine's output was increased to 115 hp, and in 1987, the 1.9-liter, 130 hp version was launched, recognizable at first glance by its 15-inch wheels. In terms of performance, the GTI was capable of reaching 190 km/h (118 mph) and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 9.5 seconds. The GTI was also notable for its low noise level, even at high engine speeds.

Its two-door body was developed specifically for the GTI, although more basic versions with this configuration were later launched. In terms of style, the 205 GTI stood out for its power and sportiness with an original, uncomplicated style. The 205 GTI was sporty and elegant, just like the Golf GTI. That's not to say the GTI didn't feature quite a few modifications... plastic wheel arch scuttles, a red body trim strip running the length of a thick side panel, a small roof spoiler, Vitaloni mirrors, 14-inch Speedline alloy wheels, and a body-coloured front apron with two integrated high-beam headlights.

Inside, the GTI also had a sporty feel, with "Biarritz" velour bucket seats and bright red carpeting that caught your eye as soon as you opened the door. Behind a two-spoke plastic steering wheel (until 1987) bearing the GTI logo, the instrument cluster is GTI-specific and very well equipped, with numerous information displays. However, the dashboard of the early 205 GTIs is a complete disaster. Furthermore, the driving position isn't the best, with the seat too high (or the steering wheel too low), and the seats themselves too soft and with little lateral support. A new dashboard was fitted in 1998, and the front indicators became white in 1991.

In total, Peugeot produced a total of 332,942 units of the 205 GTI across all its versions.
