The USS Constitution is a three-masted, wooden-hulled heavy frigate of the United States Navy. Named by President George Washington after the Constitution of the United States of America, it is the oldest floating naval vessel in the world. Built in Boston, Massachusetts, at Edmund Hartt's shipyard, she was launched in 1797. The USS Constitution was one of the original six frigates authorized for construction by the Naval Act of 1794. Joshua Humphreys designed the frigates to be capital ships of the young Navy, so Constitution and her sisters were larger, more heavily armed and built than the standard frigates of the time. Once assembled, the boat measures approximately 91 cm long, 27 cm wide and 67 cm high.
