Exceptionally, the 38th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans took place on September 28 and 29 due to the riots that occurred in France in May 1968. Ford presented itself again with its tuned GT40, undoubtedly a favourite after his two consecutive victories in the legendary Sarthe race. The #9 number, in the hands of Pedro Rodríguez and Lucien Bianchi, took victory the next day, after completing a whopping 331 laps. This victory reinforced the American manufacturer's dominance in the world of endurance racing. The decoration of the Gulf, with its light blue and orange colours, definitively became part of the history of the GT from that day on.
