The duo formed by Ronnie Peterson and his March had a stellar performance in the 1971 Monaco Grand Prix. Starting from eighth position on the grid, Peterson put in one of the best performances of his career, climbing to the second step of the podium, even ahead of Jackie Ickx's Ferrari. The world finally discovered the enormous talent of Ronnie Peterson, who only fate, on a Sunday in September 1978 at the Monza circuit, would prevent from reaching greater heights. But his speed aboard the March with the “tray” resting on the nose on the Principality circuit will always remain in the memory of all fans. That red March Ford 711 attracted attention precisely because of its strange elliptical wing on the low and rounded nose, supported only by a slender pylon, similar to the wing of a Spitfire fighter plane, to which the British have always given the nickname "coffee-table".
