The International Race of Champions (IROC) is really an event held in North America equivalent to an All Star, but for motorsport figures. The guest drivers compete with the same type of vehicle, which are also prepared identically and maintained by a single team of mechanics in an effort to make the race as equal as possible from a mechanical point of view, so that the driver skill will make the difference. The first edition took place on two tracks over two weekends. The first three races were held on October 27 and 28, 1973 at the Riverside International circuit, and the final race was held at the Daytona International track on February 14, 1974. The Porsche 911 Carrera RSR was the chosen car, and 12 guest drivers. After the four races, Mark Donohue became the first driver to win the championship after winning three of them. Sadly, that victory for Mark Donohue in the fourth and final race at Daytona was his last victory, as he died in an accident during practice for the 1975 Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix at the Österreichring circuit.
