Due to the success of the Porsche 935s run by private teams, Porsche stopped having an official factory team in 1979, but continued to supply parts to its customer teams. And that brought with it new and interesting evolutions of the Porsche 935 by the teams. One of the most successful conversions was carried out by the Joest Racing team, whose owner was the German racing driver Reinhold Joest. Hence, their models included the letter J to differentiate them from other preparations, such as Kremer's K. The Porsche 935 J had a six-cylinder, 3.2-liter, twin-turbocharged engine. In the demanding event of the 1980 24 Hours of Daytona, Joest Racing further increased its international prestige thanks to the victory it obtained with an advantage of more than 33 laps over the second place. The model includes the auxiliary headlights used by the car overnight.
