On September 4, 1966, Lodovico Scarfiotti won the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix. That was the third and last success for an Italian driver in his home race at the wheel of a Ferrari after those won by Alberto Ascari in 1951 and 1952. A totally Made in Italy victory that dates back 57 years. The win at Monza, completed by second place for Mike Parkes, was the result of a busy summer for the Maranello mechanics.

The Ferrari 312 F1, which competed between the years of 1966 and 1969, proved from the beginning to be more unfortunate than competitive, so much so that in four years of activity it only won three Grand Prix, two of which took place in 1966 and one in 1968. And it is that reliability was not the strong point of the 312 F1, since in most races it started in the first positions (including seven pole positions), but rarely managed to finish the race. That year at Monza, fate reserved a lucky day for the Maranello team, which achieved a historic result that is still remembered.
