We have been stunned by the announcement of the next Tamiya reference at 1/24 scale. A whole stratospheric supercar! And its first assembled image has just been made public at the Nuremberg Toy Fair, as have many of its features... We love that the
rear area can be opened to reveal its Cosworth V12 engine, with its curious
gullwing engine hood with double leaves reminiscent of classic vehicles. The model reproduces with great realism the most original element of the T.50, the large
central rear fan with its internal ducts as in the real car. It also
includes photo-etched parts to represent the
rear bumper mesh sections, which are attached without the need for glue. In the case of the suspensions, the
springs are molded as a
separate part from the shocks, which increases realism and makes painting easier. And let's not forget the sheet metal transfers for some of the emblems. Without a doubt, a
spectacular kit!

The T.50 is Gordon Murray's answer to the supercar of the modern era, with just 100 examples built worldwide, all sold within 48 hours of its unveiling on August 4, 2020.
Gordon Murray's vision of the supercar is clearly defined, retaining key aspects of what defines a supercar: central driving position, reduced weight, the best naturally aspirated V12 engine ever made, high level of driver involvement with fewer aids to handling, incorporation of new materials, innovative aerodynamics, an iconic design, and all without compromises of any kind.
The T.50's numbers don't disappoint either. Its Cosworth-sourced 3.9-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine develops 650 horsepower, which can even reach 700 horsepower for a few moments thanks to the power input from the integrated 48V starter generator of its Mild Hybrid system. The engine also surprises with the use of materials such as titanium in the connecting rod sections, valves and clutch housing. The rev cut rate is set at a stratospheric 12,100 rpm, and the 6-speed gearbox is manually operated. All this to move a true featherweight of only 986 kilos... less even than the other supercar designed by Gordon Murray, the original McLaren F1. This has been achieved thanks to the use of a carbon fiber monocoque, the same material used in the body panels, which also contributes to increasing rigidity.
But perhaps one of the most exciting features of the Gordon Murray T.50 supercar is its aerodynamics, the most advanced ever seen in a road car. And it is that Gordon Murray has resorted to one of his first ideas, applied in 1978 on one of the vehicles he was working on, the famous F1 Brabham BT46B, which used a fan to increase downforce. Thus, the T.50 has ground effect, and active fan-assisted aerodynamics, an element that acts as a multipurpose device, allowing to improve cooling, downforce and efficiency, while reducing aerodynamic drag.
