The 1986 edition of the Rally Corte Inglés Islas Canarias had a luxury entry, with many Gr.B vehicles on the entry list, and among which was Jimmy McRae's MG Metro 6R4 (father of fellow drivers Colin, world champion of rallies in 1995, and Alister McRae), being the first time that a Metro Gr.B was seen in the Canary Islands. Jimmy McRae managed to finish the rally in third position, behind winner Carlos Sainz in the Renault Maxi Turbo and Antonio Zanini in the Ford RS200.
