The Ford Escort Mk 2 was launched on the market in 1975, and was a decisive evolution with respect to the Escort Mk 1 presented at the Brussels Motor Show in 1968. The high-quality mechanics of the previous version were retained, but the car design according to the aesthetic and stylistic tastes of the 70s. In addition to the more functional versions, there was also an Escort RS version that was characterized by a more aggressive look and a markedly sporty interior. Finally, the RS 1800 version with a 115 hp engine was also presented thanks to, among other things, its double camshaft, and which served as the basis for the special version used in the World Rally Championship, which achieved important results, including the manufacturers' title in 1979 and the drivers' title in 1979 and 1981. The iconic Zakspeed team built and used a special version of the Escort Mk 2 under Gr.2 regulations between 1977 and 1978.
