Ferrari debuts the 330 P4 in 1967, after losing the 1966 Le Mans race to Ford. Its debut race was the 24 Hours of Daytona, where the Ferrari 330 P4 took the top two positions and Ferrari a fantastic triplet, since in third position finished the 330 P3 of the North American Racing Team, after the powerful rival teams like Ford and Chaparral had to withdraw for various reasons.
For the 1967 Targa Florio, Ferrari entered a unit of the 330 P4 for the Vaccarella/Scarfiotti duo, starting the race well for them, reaching the lead from the start. But everything went wrong during the second lap when Vaccarella, upon reaching the town of Collesano, lost control of the car hitting a curb sideways and seriously damaging the wheels on the right side, having to abandon the race.
