Additional details for the
Audi R8 car scale model kit:
The Audi R8, based on the Audi Le Mans Quattro concept car, designed by Frank Lamberty and Julian Hoenig, first appeared at the Geneva and Frankfurt International Motor Shows during 2003. The final road version of the R8 had to wait until the end of September 2006, when it was officially presented at the Paris Motor Show. Initially, the name chosen for the model generated some confusion, since it was the same as that of the LMP category prototype with which Audi had won the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The R8 was the first mid-engined Audi, and six-time Le Mans 24 Hours winner Jacky Ickx described it at the time as "the best-handling road car today."
The Audi R8 also had a convertible version, and although its appearance was already rumoured in the automotive press since the announcement of the production of the R8 in 2006, it was not until August 2008 when there was official confirmation, especially after the publication on the Internet spy photographs of a convertible R8 'Spyder' taken from scenes from the filming of the movie Iron Man Two.
