The first generation of the Range Rover, which was initially only available with a 2-door body, was manufactured between 1970 and 1996. The Range Rover was not conceived as a luxury vehicle, but compared to previous Land Rover models it could be consider high-end. Early Range Rovers had basic, utilitarian interiors with vinyl seats and plastic dashboards designed for easy cleaning with a hose. Later, comfort elements such as power steering, air conditioning and interior wood trim were added. The Range Rover design, with the body mounted on a frame, used coil springs, had four-wheel drive and fitted four-wheel disc brakes, making it a pioneer in its time.
