Porsche developed the 934 to comply with the Group 4 homologation regulations for Grand Touring vehicles according to the FIA regulations, which stipulated that 25 cars had to be manufactured in a year, precisely defining what could be changed with respect to the original Porsche 911.

In 1976, the 934's engine had a displacement of 2,994 cc and an output of 485 hp, which was later increased to 540 hp, reaching 303 km/h.

No fewer than 44 examples of the Porsche 934 were built, and in the years that followed they won numerous races and championships at the hands of top teams and drivers. From 1977, with Porsche offering the more powerful 935, there weren't many chances for 934 owners to get to the podium anymore. At the driver level, the 934 was quite a challenge, due to its relatively high weight (1,120 kilograms), its high power, and little aerodynamic assistance, with Group 4 regulations allowing only small spoilers and wings.
