Additional details for the Ferrari 288 GTO
car scale model kit:
The Ferrari 288 GTO (also known simply as the Ferrari GTO) is an exotic supercar introduced at the 1984 Geneva Motor Show by the Italian manufacturer Ferrari and manufactured between 1984 and 1985. The name "288 GTO" means that it has a 2.8 liter V8 engine and that it is, in italian, a Gran Turismo Omologato (translated: Homologated Gran Turismo).
Even before production began in July 1984, the limited edition of 273 units had already been sold, each one to the highest bidder.
The generous use of fiberglass, Kevlar and Nomex testified to the philosophy of Harvey Postlethwaite, who had also been using these quality materials in the brand's F1 cars from 1982. Under the rear engine hood, each bank of cylinders had two camshafts, 16 valves, a Japanese IHI turbocharger and a huge intercooler, Ferrari declaring a final power of 400 hp.
