Additional details for the
Williams Ford FW08C car scale model kit:
Williams updated its FW08 for the 1983 season, renamed FW08C. With the new regulations, all types of ground effect were prohibited, so all cars that had a flat bottom to generate this effect had to be modified or replaced to a large extent, and the FW08 was no exception.
In truth, few expected the Williams to perform so well against turbocharged cars from Renault, Brabham and Ferrari. Keke Rosberg opened the season with pole position at the Brazilian Grand Prix, where after suffering a fire in the pits, putting it out, and returning to the track to climb back to second position, he was disqualified for having been pushed into the pits to put the car running.
The FW08 and its evolutions obtained its last victory in the 1983 Monaco Grand Prix, which if it had not been for an untimely breakdown in Jacques Laffite's gearbox when he was running comfortably in second position, could have been a fantastic double. In the last race of the year, Williams would debut the FW09, already with a Honda engine, finishing fourth in the Constructors' World Championship, the best of the teams with a Cosworth engine.
As a curiosity, the FW08C had the honour of being the first Formula One car driven by Ayrton Senna, which occurred at Donington Park in July 1983.
