The Yamaha YZR-M1 is a motorcycle with a four-stroke engine developed specifically by the Yamaha Motor Company to compete in the MotoGP category. Introduced in 2002, it is the successor to the 500cc Yamaha YZR500, and was originally developed with a 990cc engine. Since then, the Yamaha YZR-M1 has been continuously evolving throughout the different seasons, adapting to changes such as the displacement changes in the Moto GP category, going through 990 cc, 800 cc and 1000 cc.
Over the years, the Yamaha YZR-M1 has been refined, achieving up to 8 Moto GP world championships with riders such as Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo, and more recently, the title won by Fabio Quartararo in 2021, thus returning a title that Yamaha had been resisting since 2015.
The Tech3 team has been linked to Yamaha as a satellite team from the 2003 season to the 2018 season, and riders such as Colin Edwards, Ben Spies, Cal Crutchlow, Andrea Dovizioso and Pol Espargaró have been on their bikes.
