After the great success that the marketing of its 550 Maranello and 575M meant for Ferrari, in 2006 the next Ferrari grand touring model was presented, the 599 GTB.
It was first seen by the general public at the Geneva Motor Show in February 2006. Designed by American Jason Castriota, the 599 GTB had a much more modern look than the 575 it replaced, with numerous unique styling elements designed to optimize the car's aerodynamics.
Its 612 bhp 6-litre V12 engine was mounted behind the front axle, making it a front mid-engined car, while the 6-speed gearbox, selectable via paddles on the flywheel, mounts over the rear axle for optimal weight distribution.
An interesting fact about the 599 GTB is that for the first time in a Ferrari grand touring car the chassis was made from aluminum instead of using a tubular steel frame, which not only reduced the overall weight of the car, but it helped to increase the torsional rigidity of the chassis.
All this power and mechanical engineering was combined, as could not be otherwise in a Ferrari grand touring, with a luxurious leather-wrapped interior with many carbon fiber details and all the comforts one could expect in a modern vehicle.
Although at the time of its launch some described the design as exaggerated, time has proven that the 599 GTB is one of the most beautiful Ferrari V12s, and it continues to boast great style and performance to this day.
