Paints recommended by Tamiya / SpotModel for this product:
The Weissach brand development team once again made an intelligent interpretation of the regulations when planning the 911 GT1. It seemed that the 911 would not give more of itself and that it had reached its maximum with the approval in its GT2 and GT3 versions. However, road-approved supercars were admitted to GT racing from 1996, and for this only a production of 25 vehicles was required. And this is why Porsche gave the green light to the GT1, with a water-cooled twin-turbo engine based on the power units used in the Group C Porsche 956 and 962.
The engine was rated at 600PS and mounted in rear centre position. The bodywork of the Porsche 911 993 was used from the front to the B-pillar, but from there to the rear the car was transformed thanks to a tubular structure.
In 1996, the GT1 finished second at Le Mans, but it was not as successful in 1997, with Mercedes-Benz being the strongest competitor with its CLK GTR. As a result, Porsche decided to substantially overhaul the car for the 1998 season, paying special attention to aerodynamics, and the considerably modified 911 GT1 Evo was born with a new floor section, a new front axle and a six-cylinder engine that increased its power up to 544 hp.
