Leyton House's 1990 season was full of ups and downs. The CG901 car was designed by Adrian Newey, with a complex dynamics and suspension system, but some errors in the correlation data with the wind tunnel used by Leyton House meant that it took several races before the car's flaws could be corrected.
As an example, neither car managed to qualify for the Brazilian Grand Prix, where they finished third in 1989, due to severe understeer. Even in Montreal, where the car's nose was improved, Gugelmin also failed to qualify for the race. Something similar happened in Mexico, where the rugged Rodríguez circuit was not at all suited to the CG901 and once again neither Capelli and Gugelmin managed to qualify for the race.
But everything changed from the next Grand Prix, where a completely modified chassis was introduced. In addition to a complete overhaul of the monocoque, the shape of the car's floor was changed, the front wing was improved and the airflow over the body was modified. All this, added to the perfect asphalt of the Paul Ricard circuit, allowed the “new” Leyton House and all its modifications to perform brilliantly, obtaining what would be the best result of the year, with Capelli finishing second. In the next race at Silverstone the good form continued, with Capelli holding third position for the time being before retiring on lap 48 with a fuel leak. But from then on, the team fell back into a long depression, without relevant results and without scoring points in any other race.
At the end of the session, Adrian Newey, author in part of the miraculous comeback of Leyton House in the French GP, went to the Williams team, being replaced by Chris Murphy, and for the following season there would also be a change of engine supplier, going on to use the Ilmor V10 engine, first tested at Donington on 3 October.

The Japanese brand
Studio27 was one of the pioneers in creating accessories so that we could improve and modify our models. Decals, photo-etched parts and transkits were quite a discovery a few years ago.
