In the 1985 Rally of Portugal, Timo Salonen achieved his first victory with the Peugeot 205 T16 after an irregular trajectory with uncompetitive cars, a true turning point. And it was not the only one, since Portugal was followed by another four victories, proclaiming himself World Champion in 1985.

Volvo by Highlight Model Studio

Volvo by Highlight Model Studio

Eero Kumanto had a dream: to recreate a model of the Volvo 240 as it circulates in some places in Finland. The idea came from seeing a Volvo parked in a quiet area of the city. He got to work and designed some photo-etched parts that significantly help improve the appearance of the model. Once the model was assembled, Eero was so satisfied with the result that he decided to share it and give everyone who wanted the opportunity to create a model of a personalized street Volvo. This is how the Highlight Model Studio reference was born to detail and make variants of the Volvo 240 scale models that so many modelers wanted to have.

In 1975, when Ferrari introduced the 308 GTB, the owner of the Ferrari dealer in San Francisco Ray Ramsey used an exemption in the legislation to be able to import one to his country before the first official unit arrived to the US.

A few weeks ago we told you about the Decalcas chain for the Suzuki GSX-RR an awesome product that left us speechless. History repeats itself and Decalcas surprises us again with another great product that we did not expect: a detail-up set for the Suzuki GSX-RR by Tamiya that replaces parts such as the rear brake disc and caliper, rear tire axle and nut, chain tensioner, brake and gear shifting levers, stand brackets, and also adds the antennas to the side camera and replaces the fastening screws of the visible chassis sections already included in the original Tamiya box for new resin parts that faithfully recreate the head of the originals, as well as replacing the numerous simulated screws on the surface of the fairing. Look at that!

Back in the Paleolithic, the human being already began to dedicate part of his time to modify elements that he found in nature to turn them into tools that would facilitate his life. We can perfectly imagine that man or woman sharpening stones or bones, giving them the desired shape to obtain knives, arrowheads or needles to sew skins. Wasn't this a form of modeling? The first way of modeling, we want to think :)

About 100 newsletters ago, that is, 100 weeks ago, we announced that Pocher was launching 2,000 units of the Ducati 1299 Panigale S Anniversario in 1/4 scale and that they were going to fly. And so it was, the model arrived and flew away, sold out in just week. Many of you were left wanting for more, with tears in your eyes for not being able to get one in time.

All that matters is how you play the game

All that matters is how you play the game

We have heard many times that "It doesn't matter whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game", a big truth. Scale modeling is not a competition, building models is a hobby where what really matters is the wish to reach to go to the end and the ability to put the tools, the liters of glue, the sandpaper and the necessary paint, on top of a steady pulse, a 57x magnification glass, a bomb-proof patience and the will to see the model finished... to achieve it.

Yes, things are coming back from the old times when we were younger. Back are those days at home, those idle afternoons, and also are returning the scale models from back then. For example, the BMW R80 G/S 1000 edited in the 80's by Protar and now recasted by Italeri, the Peugeot 206 WRC by Tamiya originally edited in 2000 (yes, that's twenty years ago), the beautiful and cheap model of the Volkswagen Beetle 1300 by Tamiya released in 1994, the MFH Ferrari 312T4 released in 2012, or the batch of Porsche 917, Ford GT40, Ferrari 330 / 512TR / 288 GTO / 250 GTO / F40, all of them by Fujimi that are arriving at SpotModel's warehouse these days.

The world of colors is really complex. And if we are talking about colors for our scale models, things get even more complicated. We saw endless rivers or Italian red at scale modeling shows.

He was the driver with the most victories but without ever winning a Formula 1 World Championship, making him one of the champions without a crown. To race, to drive, to win: three verbs with lots of charm that we all love. But you need lots of stickers to use them in the real world :) Without the sponsors stickers, there would be no races, pilots couldn't drive, and races couldn't be won.

Second is the first loser...

Do you know that feeling when you've been waiting for a long time, you're about to get it, you're almost seeing the finish line, and suddenly out of the blue someone overtakes you by the inside and leave you with a handful of nothing? As Senna said, "second is the first loser", so pay lots of attention to this week products because most of them are reeditions and they're going away faster than the shine of the qualification tyres :)

Flying red balloons....

The year was 1964, it was a summer day (June 20th to be precise), and everybody had their eyes set on the four angle parked Ferrari 250GTO that darted out whizzing down Le Mans main straight to face the first of the 349 laps that would last the 32nd edition of the 24 hours. Approaching the first corner, the red exhaust intakes and brake discs just matched the color of the bodywork, and the rest is just history ... :)

...rode those magnificent men. Yes, those crazy car racing heroes took 4500 cubic centimetres supercharged to reach 240 horsepower, added just some drum brakes to try to stop them and leaf springs to put them on the ground, and fought their epic battles at the 24 hours of Le Mans. And on top of that, they finished the races. And some of them even won. And their cars were GORGEOUS :D

Not so long ago some guys invented the 'black chrome' which is a chroming technique using chemicaly modified chrome to get a deep black tone, while mantaining the glossiness and reflectivity of classic chrome. The lads at Bare Metal Foil have recreated this effect in one of their famous adhesive sheets, and of course SpotModel was not going to miss it :)

«The ground was shaking, the car was flying...»

Not so long ago I went to the Circuit of Jerez speedtrack, and during the visit I could speak for a long time with one of the track marshals. One of the many questions I asked him was: «What has been the most amazing vehicle you've seen racing in this track?» And he didn't hesitate one second to answer: «1988 Spanish Grand Prix, coming out from corner 6 (Dry Sack), Ayrton Senna going full throttle on the McLaren MP4/4... I've never ever seen anything like that. The ground was shaking, the car was flying...». Twenty six race years later, and that means A LOT of races at Jerez, those words sounded glorious ;-)
