Additional details for the
Alfa Romeo 179 and 179C car scale model kit:
The Alfa Romeo 179 is the Formula 1 single-seater used in different variations by the Alfa Romeo team from 1979 to 1982. The 179 made its debut at the 1979 Italian Grand Prix, replacing the Alfa Romeo 177 with a 12-cylinder boxer engine.
At the start of the 1981 season, variable dampers were included on the 179s, becoming the 179C. The next evolution would be the 179D, lower, and the last version used in competition was the 179F, completely built in carbon fiber.
Alfa Romeo suffered a serious loss when Patrick Depailler was tragically fatal while testing the car at Hockenheim in 1980.
There was also a V8 version of this car, the 1982 179T, which was also used to test the 1.5L supercharged engine.
The 179's best results were Bruno Giacomelli's pole position at the 1980 United States Grand Prix at Watkins Glen, and third place at the 1981 Caesars Palace Grand Prix in Las Vegas. In total, the car achieved 14 points in 61 races.
